Hey guys, this will be my final post before the big day I imagine. Cellphone service around the area is spotty at best, so remember to take these directions with you and I'll see you there. Look for my green explorer, that will be where we're camping. You'll also probably see a mass of people chanting and performing tribal dances...well maybe not if you get there early enough. I posted before about what to bring and that still stands minus the painted beer and baskets etc. The directions are below, see you fuckers there.
Directions to Piney River:
Exit I-64 at 118A
towards LYNCHBURG US 29 South, go about 34 miles
Us 29 South becomes Rt. 56 West for a few miles
Turn right onto Rt.
56, at Colleen going towards Piney River
Merge left onto Rt.
151 South, go about 1/8 mile.
Turn right onto Rt.
778 towards Lowesville
Turn right immediately before T & K
store, Rt. 666
Turn right onto Woodson Rd., Rt. 666, go across bridge (Piney River
Baptist Church on right side)
take a left across small bridge onto Rt. 827, Perkins Mill Rd.
Follow road. Turns into Alhambra Rd., stay straight (the road will turn into gravel)
Look for George Washington National Park sign on
right side of road.
The campsite is 3.5 miles up on the left side of the road. Look for Chris’ green Explorer.
If any problems, go
to T & K store and ask for directions....
The trip is 53 miles in total. About an hour from I-64.

BEERHUNT CHANGED TO FULL-ON FESTIVAL IN THE WILDS
Hey guys. SO I don't really feel like going into depth on here, but basically we're STILL going camping this saturday, the 28th, STILL getting a keg, STILL grilling out, STILL planning to get there around noon-ish or whenever you can (I'll be there at noon), and STILL essentially doing the camp group thing for organizational purposes.
What we're nixing is painting the beers and doing the beerhunt (which usually lasts around half an hour) at the beginning of the whole fiesta.
Thus, let's party down. I'd still like to get a keg and make some food for the party so if you could get me some money BY FRIDAY that would be fantastic. I'm thinking 15 dollars per person would go a long way. We'll probably buy one nice keg of something like Yuengling or better and then get some meat for souvlaki kebabs and burgers and dogs and all those fixings. If not enough people can throw down beforehand, each camp group will have to be responsible for their own food. Let me know what up. Call me to RSVP too if you will, because at this point I'm not sure who will still be coming or what: (757) 870 0104.

Okay, as for painted beers. You can get anything from Natural Light glass bottles to Yuengling 24s to really nice Belgian magnum bottles. The idea is that each group should paint at least a couple nice ones (let's say at least Sam Adams quality, preferably above) and then several medium quality brews (Yuengling, Rolling Rock, Bud Select, Corona, Negra Modelo etc.) and then several lower quality brews (Miller Lite and the like). Remember, this is a labor of love. The look on every beer lovers' face as they pop into one of these mystery bottles is unforgettable ; )
Once acquiring the bottles, I've found the following method works rather well: Get a couple cans of neon spray paint (if it says it adheres to glass all the better). Apply two coats of this to all your bottles. Coat thoroughly and let dry for a day. Then, paint each glass bottle with acrylic or glass paint thoroughly. You can put all kinds of designs on them, stickers, people's names, designs whatever, it's completely up in the air. Then let this dry for a day and you are good to go.
The concept behind this is that the spray paint provides a base for the acrylic to adhere to. You will quickly find that most paint doesn't like sticking to glass so much, but two coats of the spray paint fixes that problem.

We're Getting Close
Alright guys, if you have NOT posted a comment with the names of whoever you're signing up-- DO IT NOW. I'm trying to finalize and post the camp groups by this weekend, preferably before Sunday. Once that happens I'm going to be calling the spokesperson for each group and getting them to begin organizing their camp group's materials. I need everyone signed up on here so I can buy the right amount of food and enough keg beer and thus set the amount of money I need to collect from each group at the proper amount.
Each camp group is going to be responsible for the following:
-tents, sleeping mats, sleeping bags and any other such equipment (chairs etc.)
-1 cooler for beer and 1-2 big bags of ice
-snackage (chips, cookies, marshmallows etc.)
-wood (if you can bring any), especially bigger logs and such for a bonfire
-painted beers: 6-12+ depending on what you feel like and how many are in your group. I'll put an information post up about some methods the council has found that work well...
-1 beer satchel or basket per every 1 or 2 people in your group
-$10-20 per person: this amount will vary based on how many kegs we get and how many people are coming
-towel and/or bathing suit (there is a gorgeous creek to swim in and waterfalls)
-tennis shoes that can get wet and maybe an extra pair in case they do
-clothing (optional of course)
-flashlights, lanterns, lamps
-fun stuff such as hookahs etc. I know mine will be there, but the more the merrier
-liquor and mixers if you want such things (and are not true beer lovers)
-lighters and matches
-bottled water
What you don't need to worry about (AKA what your money is going towards):
-keg beer, 1-2 kegs (each keg will cost $48 plus a $30 deposit for the pump and $50 deposit per keg)
-cups
-wood
-burgers, dogs, and brats + necessary buns and fixings
-grilled corn
-the grill and charcoal
-lighter fluid
-breakfast type food: muffins, oatmeal, etc.
In the next couple days I will post directions to the campsite. Anyone is welcome to meet at my apartment around 12 noon and carpool/caravan to the site. Also, if you'd like to get up here on Friday evening, that'd be great. I have plenty of room to sleep people. Keep in mind that I would like to get everyone's money and, if possible, the painted beers by Thursday of next week.
ALSO, if anyone would like to be part of the Beer Hiding Team then PLEASE LET ME KNOW. BeerMasters Steve, Hana, and I were the team last year and if possible I know we would like to participate in the hunt this year. If no one else volunteers, we're all fine to do it again, but if you're feeling generous then, again, LET ME KNOW ASAP. The Beer Hiding Team will need to leave from Cville around 10 or 11 am in order to have time to set up. The campsite is about 45 minutes outside of Charlottesville.
My Final Appeal: The beerhunt is truly a blast guys. Last year, it was one of the best days/nights of my semester and I really would like it to continue to be a tradition. I think most everyone who was there would agree with me. COME! Plus, if that's not enough, just do it for me. I'm about to graduate, I have no idea what job I will be working, and I really just want all my friends to get together and unite for however much time we can. As we grow older these types of get-togethers will become fewer and farther between, so do it cuz you love me and I want YOU there if nothing else.

The Great Beerhunt Begins Anew
Good day. The final weekend in April approaches and with it, The Great Beerhunt.
For those of you uninitiated into The Beerhunters League:
The Great Beerhunt began last April in honor of my good friend BeerMaster Nate. BeerMasters Steve, Hana, and myself planned and executed an Easter egg Beerhunt for BeerMaster Nate. This entailed painting 75+ beer bottles which ranged in quality from Natural Lite to Sam Adams to Leffe and beyond. Once we had painted the beers, we hid them along a creek in George Washington National Park, at a secluded location known only as Piney River. Many were invited to participate in the inaugural Beerhunt and great fun was had. In order to get to certain of the hidden beers, the Beerhunters plunged into and waded the creek. They executed mind-bending feats of body to secure every last bottle, plopping each outlandishly colored treat into their 'beer baskets' with equally extravagant joy. Once every beer had been located, we tapped a glorious keg and the festival began, lasting well into the night, if not the next morning.
This year, The Great Beerhunt will be held in our collective honor, a week or so past BeerMaster Nate's birthday. Nevertheless, it will be glorious. Prepare yourselves.
What prospective Beerhunters and seasoned BeerMasters must know:
In the ensuing weeks everyone attending must register. I'll give a brief run-down of the process and leave the details for a later post. Every individual who wants to come must join a camp group of 2-8 persons (approximate; we don't care if there is one or two over etc.). Each of these camp groups will be responsible for their own tents, sleeping bags, transportation, several painted beers, beer baskets, water, coolers and probably ice. Additionally, each camp group must have a spokesperson who will report to The Beerhunt Council (members undisclosed). The spokesperson will be responsible for collecting keg and food money from their respective camp group and then forwarding that to The Beer Council at least a week before the fated weekend.
Hence, begin organizing your camp groups, for on April 28-29, The Great Beerhunt lives again!
